Description: It’s a good idea for clinicians to have an ethical framework to look to when struggling. It’s an even better idea for clinicians to become pro-active and build their own toolbox to help avoid ethical and legal missteps in the first place. The person of the therapist is ever present in and out of sessions.

Q: What influences your ethical and moral decisions?
Q: Who are you consulting with?
Q: What boundary violations are you potentially dismissing?

It is time to arm yourself so you can be sure to avoid ethical and legal trouble! Join us to learn more about the person of the therapist and their personal responsibility when it comes to ethical violations.

Objectives:
1. Participants will be able to identify the most common ethical missteps for counselors that occur at a personal level.
2. Participants will review case examples for discussion and discernment of boundary violations and ethical missteps.
3. Participants will be able to articulate how the Gestalt principles of awareness, responsibility and contact can help counselors avoid ethical errors.
4. Participants will be able to identify 5 interruptions to contact boundaries.
