Hello and nice to meet you! My name is Gavin Hernandez, and I earned my bachelor’s degrees in both Biology and Psychology in 2020-2021, as well as my Masters of Education in Counseling – Clinical Mental Health in 2025, all at the University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley.

In my own life growing up, I have experienced many personal issues that most of us as humans go through, and I find that those experiences have helped me not only become the person I am today, but has also allowed me to understand the experiences of others from a supportive perspective and given me the motivation to help however possible.

I have experience counseling with populations of all ages ranging from young children to senior citizens over a variety of mental health issues related but not limited to: depression, anxiety, self-esteem, grief/loss, behavioral and communication issues, social skills training, neurodiversity, anger management and trauma.

Regarding techniques, I do my best to remain as versatile as possible as I believe that each person's counseling experience is subjective, and certain modalities and techniques may be more effective to each specific client than others. While always maintaining the principles of Client-Centered counseling, I have experience in using Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, as well as modalities such as Extended Family Systems and both Structural and Strategic Family Therapy when counseling families and/or couples. Finally, I believe that my foundational principles reside in Solution-Focused Therapy, as my end goal is for my clients to explore and find their own personal and specific ways of working through their issues and ultimately moving forward without those issues affecting them anymore.

I truly wish to help whoever possible through whatever possible, not just as a counselor but as a person as well. I love learning about one’s experiences and how they became who they are, and if I can help with things my clients believe are issues affecting them, then I will do everything in my power to do so. I treat the counselor-client relationship with the upmost respect and non-judgmental perspective, and I will always come from a place of understanding and beneficence and ensure we maintain the best/most effective counseling relationship possible.

I am and always will be forever grateful and honored to be given the opportunity to help anybody and everybody I possibly can.
